Windsurfing Fun
By Craig Dannerd
Windsurfing is an easy to learn, relaxing and beautiful sport that lets you enjoy the true beauty of nature. Having once learnt how to windsurf, you can do it anywhere where there is water, wind, and your equipment. This is a solo sport that people can take to when ever they wish to. If you live close to the ocean, a lake or a big water body, this is the sport for you to learn.

Many people have the misconception that requires immense upper and lower body strength to do it. To the delight of those who wish to learn windsurfing, this sport has practically very little to do with strength. The sport focuses on balance and working with the wind. Many beginners in their enthusiasm try to force the equipment to go one way or another and find it very difficult especially when they try to work against the wind.

It is a good idea to take some lessons when you get ready to try windsurfing. For one thing you must learn the basics about how to use your equipment as well as how to put it together. You must also learn the basic stances and how to windsurf safely. As soon as you know the fundamentals of and how to avoid danger, you should be ready to go.

On your novice expeditions, a soft breeze should be plenty. If the wind is blowing too hard, you may not be able to balance. Things could get dangerous if you don't know the ropes. Before you start, also look to see if there are other windsurfers out. If you see others, then you'll know conditions must be good.

When you are ready to go out there are several precautions you should take. Even if you are experienced, going with a friend is wise. This is crucial if you are learning. If something happens to you while you are out in the water a friend can assist you or call for help. You may be wondering if you need

to wear a life jacket. Life jackets for boating often don't offer enough free movement, but there are personal flotation devices made for that allow a good range of motion.

If you are in trouble in the water, remember that your board floats, so hang on to it. This is no substitute for a life jacket of some sort since you may get separated from your board. If you are in trouble you should also remember that the international distress signal is waving both hands over your head.

If you haven't gone before, you should rent equipment a few times before even considering a purchase. You can rent equipment for around $15-20 for a few hours. If you decide after trying it a few times that you don't enjoy it you've only lost out on a few dollars. Buying equipment can cost up to $1,000 so you should be sure that you want to pursue it in the long term before making that kind of financial equipment.

Windsurfing can be a great and exhilarating experience. Nearly anyone can learn how after just a few lessons. Make sure your instructor is well-qualified as well as certified.
